Holi or Doljatra is a festival of color with love. which arrival of spring ( in March month).
This festival is an ancient Hindu religious festival but we also see that Non-Hindus, such as Jains, Sikhs, Newar Buddhists (Nepal) are celebrating this festival.
In Bengali, we say Doljatra and Holi in western and central India.
This festival takes place over two days and in these two days has two different stories.
So let's start, 

Story - 1


Holika Dahan ( Day Before Holi)


The story of Holika and Prahlada is described in the Falgunamahatamata script of Skanda Purana
Holika was the sister of Hiranyakashipu and Prahlada was the son of  Hiranyakashipu.
 Hiranyakashipu was an Asur and after Brahma Baran started to despise the Gods by winning the human race. But his son Prahlada was righteous and great devotee on birth. So that is why he trying to kill his son Prahlada. But when he failed to kiss his son in various ways, he decided to take this charge to his sister Holika. So when Holika (an evil entity or Asur) enter the fire to carry the Prahalada in her lap ( Because of Holika got this blessing that there will be no harm in the fire but ) she was burnt down. Because of Vishnu Dev ( God ) save the Prahlada and she abuse of her power resulted in the destruction.

Based on this event Holi word origin.


Nowadays people are celebrating this event for remembering how good entity destroy evil entity.  People are creating a fire set by using the dry trees, branches, woods, and dry grasses which is very high-high unity pillar. This event is called Holika Dahan or Nerapora.

Story - 2


Doljatra or Holi (Day of Holi)


One this day on the other side of the full moon, Lord Krishna killed Ashur called Keshi. There is also somewhere in the name of Ashishasur named Asur killing. After the execution of the wrongdoer, the tyrant, the evil tyrant, everyone is happy. The joy of destruction of this evil power becomes great fun. Mythological stories and folklore related to Doljatra or Holi festival.
According to the Vaishnava belief, on the day of Falguni Purnima Srikrishna performed Abir or Gulal with Radhika and other Gopis playing colors.

WHY IS HOLI IMPORTANT:-


1) The significance of this festival is the best way to express love to everyone and make them sweet face.

2) Some tribes of Hindu religion give new clothes to the married girl on this day and to the girl's daughter.


3) The day before Doljatra or Holi Lord Krishna was worshiped and the dry color is scattered.


4) Many colorful colors Abir and Rang make us feel happy and playing with these colors all our arrogance, anger and sadness will end and everyone enjoys the living of moments.


5) For this day some poor selles man find a little happier moments because they sell many types of colorful Abir, Rang, colorful cap, and dress. So they get some money with which their family runs.

1) Cover your entire body in oil

Oil can help you to remove Holi colors easily. So covered your entire body....when I say entire body its means entire body. Your hands, face, legs, and whole body.


You can use coconut or any body oil. 

2) Cover your body with full shirt and pants

Wear old full shirts and pants that when naughty kids throw the watercolor balloons or Pichkari it can't reach your body skin.



3) Cover your lips with vaseline 


Apply vaseline in your lips which help you to protect your lips moisture and no hard color stuck in it.

4) Olive oil or coconut oil


Olis is the best protector for Holi colors. It can form a layer so strong colors do not stick in your hair and when you wash your hair it can easily remove. You can also use mustard oil as an alternative.



5) Curd and methi past


Make a paste curd and methi seeds powder. Apply this on your hair as a mask of Holi colors. This may stop hair harm and keep your hair nourished. 



6) Egg yolk and curd


Egg yolk mixes with curd and makes a paste. using it in your hairs in several times and stay in 50 minutes before using a mild shampoo. This paste helps you to avoid harmful chemical products and hair fall.



Tips to remember



7) Using cold water for removing colors because hot water makes difficult to remove Holi colors.

8) Do not wash your face again and again with soap it makes your face dry.

9) Using nail polish in your nails for easily removing Holi colors.

10) Chewing chewingum all time when you play Holi in your friends so that nobody can put the Holi colors in your teeth. And as know, nobody cares but it still worth it.




Holi is a festival of color and fun so don't worry about color because it all goes in a week.
