Triple Point of Water with Graph and Critical Point of water with Graph

TRIPLE POINT OF WATER BRIEFLY DISCUSSION

Definition- A fixed Temperature (0.0075°C) and pressure (4.52atm) water can exist in equilibrium in the liquid (water), solid(ice) and gaseous (vapour) states.

If we plot Vapour Pressure vs Temperature in a graph this fixed Temperature and Pressure  denoted a point and this point is called Triple Point of water.

The above graph,
CD, CB and CA lines are show solid-vapour, liquid-vapour and solid-liquid equilibrium state respectively.
In this graph Point C is called Triple Point of the water.

CRITICAL POINT OF WATER BRIEFLY DISCUSSION

Definition- The end point of the Vapour Pressure vs Temperature curve of the water is called critical point(Tc). In this point Vapour (Steam) and Liquid (water) are co-exist.

The above graph,
CD, CB and CA lines are show solid-vapour, liquid-vapour and solid-liquid equilibrium state respectively.
In this graph Point C is called Triple Point of the water.

And in CB line the point B is called critical point of the water.

NOTE:- 1) Below the critical temperature vapour or steam and upper the critical temperature liquid or water state does not exist.

               2) Critical Pressure(pc):- At this critical temperature, the amount of pressure required to liquify the water vapour ia called its critical pressure.

               3) Critical volume:- At this critical temperature and critical pressure which amount of water is required is called its critical volume.
